A. ewishing is a place where you can create wish lists and gift registries then share them with your friends and family.
Q. How much does ewishing cost?
A. Nothing, ewishing is free! ewishing is supported by advertisements from Google AdSense and referals to Amazon.com.
Q. What do the different wish list permissions mean?
A. There are three different sharing permissions that a wish list can be set to. They are Private, Friends, and Public. Below are their meanings.
Private: Your wish list is private. Only viewable by you. Individual items from your wish list are still publically searchable through tags, unless you have disabled tag browsing for each wishlist item.
Family: Anyone listed in your contact list as your family can view and participate in your wish list. Individual items from your wishlist are still publically searchable through tags, unless you have disabled tag browsing for each wish list item.
Friends: Anyone listed in your contact list as your friend can view and participate in your wish list. Individual items from your wishlist are still publically searchable through tags, unless you have disabled tag browsing for each wish list item.
Family and Friends: Anyone listed in your contact list, both family and friends, can view and participate in your wish list. Individual items from your wishlist are still publically searchable through tags, unless you have disabled tag browsing for each wish list item.
Public: Anyone that knows your email address, your username, or has you as a friend can view and participate in your wish list. This setting is good for gift registries where you may not want to add everyone to your friends list. Again, individual items from your wish list are publically searchable through tags, unless you have disabled tag browsing for each wish list item.
Q. What is a tag?
A. Tags can be assigned to your wish list items. Think of them as keywords or labels. You may assign as many tags as you'd like to your wish list items.
Q. Does ewishing sell my email address?
A. See ewishing's Privacy Policy.
Q. Why can't I add myself as a friend?
A. I know you'd like to know what your friends got you from your wish list, but that would just spoil all the fun.
Q. What is a bookmarklet?
A. A bookmarklet is a link that contains a small javascript program. The ewishing bookmarklet allows you to add any webpage that you're viewing to your wish list. Just click on the bookmarklet whenever you're at a webpage that you'd like to add. The bookmarklet grabs the page title for the name of the item, the URL of the page for a link to the item, and if you've used your mouse to select text on the page, it will use that text as the description.
Q. What happens when I pledge money?
A. When you pledge money for someone's wish list item, it lets others know how much that person will still need to be able to buy that item. The amount you pledge is not viewable by other users. Although, the amount needed is adjusted to reflect the original amount minus the total amount pledged by everyone. Pledging money does not take money from your bank account or charge any of your credit cards.
Q. Why was ewishing created?
A. After many years of family and friends asking me for my wish list at holidays and other special occasions, I decided that there must be a better way to do this. That is where ewishing comes in. I wanted a simple, friendly way for everyone to know what everyone else wants.
